Partnerships help bring win to LoGuidice Center's Auto Tech program

The two breadth students who won first place at the 16th annual Western New York Outrageous School Automotive Competition on Jan. 16 couldn't have done it without resist from automobile dealerships in Fredonia, Dunkirk and Hamburg.
For Robert Himes and Jarrett Parsell, both seniors at Gowanda Exorbitant School and automotive technology students at the Erie 2-Chautauqua-Cattaurugus BOCES LoGuidice Enlightening Center in Fredonia, that kind of ease could prove crucial for them when they travel to New York Urban district in April to compete in the National Automotive Technology Contention.
"Without the dealers' support, it would be difficult to column the students with after-market equipment and emerging technologies that have not yet been released to revelatory systems," said Jason Delcamp, one of two automotive technology instructors at the LoGuidice Center. "When businesses colleague with schools for the students, the outcome equals celebrity."
On Jan. 16 at the Erie Community College Conveyance Technology Training Center in Orchard Garden, Himes and Parsell had to start with a disturbed-down 2010 Chevrolet Malibu, working wanton to diagnose the vehicle's problems and get it back into working equip. They ended up winning first place, fetching the 40-pound piston-shaped award home with them to the LoGuidice Center.

The Eyes Have It: Voc-Tech students help with iris scans

FAIRHAVEN — Bessie Souza knew certainly who she was and where she lived during a recent visit to the Fairhaven Postpositive major Center.
But just in case she has fix giving that information someday, she unconditional to take part in Senior Safety Net, a law enforcement program that performs iris scans on the oldish so they can be quickly identified.
"I want a clever boy to do the scan. Oh, any one of you would be fine," said Souza.
Asked her age, the spunky 90-year-old grinned and said she will be celebrating her next birthday in February.
The citizen program is being brought to this area through a collaboration of the Bristol County Sheriff's Office, Greater New Bedford Regional Vocational-Intricate High School's legal and defensive services program, and local protect departments.
"If something should happen and an elder is found perplexed and confused, an iris scan allows law enforcement to pronto identify who the person is so loved ones can be contacted," said Linda Pacheco, segment safety program coordinator with the sheriff's part.
