What is a good book and/or software I can purchase to learn more about cars?
I adoration being around cars and know a bit about them, but I want to know more. I'm going to take classes starting next year, but I have a yen for to learn about cam sizes, overlap, compression ratio, 10-12 bolt bring up ends, rear end ratio, domed piston heads, the works. Everything I righteous listed I understand for the most part but it's hard to learn some of this stuff by word of mouth...I insufficiency some tools such as a book or even better interactive software. I understand the basics of how an mechanism works, I just want to learn more...I'm buying a 1976 trans am and I want something that will give me the insight on how to literally disassemble this thing and rebuild it...suggestions?
I would be tempted to buy the shop instructions for the car I own. I was on OK car tinkerer until I bought an old car that included the factory shop manual. There was nothing like having the handbook specific to the car I owned when I was working on it. Figure drawings, instructions, schematics were all there in front of me whenever I needed and they made it easier to drudgery on and understand my car. Since then I have purchased the shop manual for almost every car I owned.
You can supplement with specific manuals you can adopt from the library for things like air conditioning, transmissions, brakes, etc.
Good good break!
