Ashland Inc. ’s Jim O’Brien told shareholders at its annual convention in Covington Thursday that its improved fiscal results are better than normal seasonality would say and that it had exceeded its cost-cutting goals through December.
Charge savings on a continuing annual principle hit $405 million by year end, control superiors than its $400 million target, he said.
O’Brien, chairman and CEO of the Covington-based specialty chemical firm, recapped its October-December lodgings results that were announced on Tuesday and lifted its variety price. Ashland earned $86 million, or $1.10 per interest, in the first quarter of its 2010 fiscal year. That compared with a denial of $119 million, or $1.73 per parcel, in the same period a year earlier.
“If there is a 'No' on the horizon, it would be raw materials costs,” an buoyant O’Brien told shareholders.
Ashland’s aspiration, he said, is to be in a global No. 1 or vehement No. 2 position in each of the markets in which it operates.
