I want to redo my interior car panels on my 260z will vinyl spray paint be effective and quality?
I plan on cleaning and spray painting my interior panels a cobalt blue, instead of the stock root beer brown color. Do you have any suggestions on re-painting car interiors?
Absolutely. In fact the factory dyes most panels themselves. I have used vinyl dyes for many cars. The biggest problem is color choice. I have found through trial and error, that VHT is the best brand for vinyl dye. It goes on nice and does not build up like paint, so it looks like a factory finish. A good second choice is the duplicolor brand. You can find them at most auto part store, Got mine at schucks. I have also used Krylon fusion plastic paint, but it is not as durable as the VHT vinyl dye. For example, I color changed my Yukon interior from a nasty gray color to satin black and red.

The red is the krylon fusion over duplicolor red dye, and the black is pure VHT satin black. Now to do it right, all of the trim has to be removed, and cleaned thoroughly to remove all dirt and if its scratched, lightly sanded. It has strong toxic fumes when spraying it, so be in a well ventilated area, and I do recommend using some kind of resperator. If you use the krylon fusion, take your time and spray several coats according to the directions to get a nice finish without too much build up. I have been running the dye job almost a year, and drive the wheels off my truck daily, and it has not faded or scratched. Good luck with it and have a nice day
